Expressive Arts

Expressive Arts happen where Art-making and Healing intersect.
In this relatively new field of the Healing Arts, artists and therapists
bring the depths of their disciplines to recognize and explore the
power of this most human activity – Making Art.  Explorations within
a consciously created and safe container tap into the wealth that
each of us carries.  A variety of Expressive Arts offerings are
available, incorporating (some or all of) dance, music, drama and
visual arts.  Recognition and transformation are the aims; art as
expression and exploration the vehicle.  No artistic experience or
‘talent’ is required.  According to Sean McNiff, “What is most
important is the commitment to beginning and willingness to accept
what comes.”

I’ve come to the field of Expressive Arts as a painter, printmaker
and teacher of Qi Gong, ESL, Spanish and art.  I’ve explored the
creative process in many forms and know the healing power of
making art. I love teaching and delight in offering the opportunity for
others to experience the joy, the focus and the therapeutic
possibilities of Expressive Arts.   In my
workshops we combine an
awareness of breath and the bodies we in-habit with exercises of
movement, poetry and visual arts.  Participants journey as deeply
as they wish, balancing intention, awareness and surprise.  It’s
serious play, sprinkled with laughter and reflection.
